Sebastopol College team crowned national champions

SEBASTOPOL College's Basilisk Performance Racing Team overcame some stiff competition recently to be crowned national champion at the F1 in Schools Technology Challenge in Melbourne. In September, the team will compete at the world championships in Singapore for the ultimate prize - $1.5 million in Cambridge University scholarships.

Ashcroft High: Five little kids have changed a whole school!

This year we have started something that has never been done before at our school. We have launched a Year 9 engineering class. This is purely as a result of the interest that has been generated by the F1 program and we have 22 students in our first intake. Half of them are girls. They are using the CATIA design software and our science teacher is teaching them about aerodynamics and engineering formulas.

Student engineers chasing the right formula

The Formula One in Schools program is run at more than 250 schools around Australia and in 28 countries around the world. It involves small teams of high school students collaborating together and teaming up with businesses to design, analyse and build tiny Formula One cars. Three Australian teams will travel to the United Kingdom in September to compete in the world finals.

This year's F1 in Schools world championships will be held in the United Kingdom, it was announced on Friday. Thirty competing teams from around the world will gather at London's Royal Horticultural Halls and Conference Centre in September.
